The Waterfront Partnership is Leading the Way to Baltimore’s Swimmable Fishable Harbor

It really is possible! The Harbor is on the brink of becoming a model sustainable urban waterfront park. The era of poor water quality has come to an end. Before long, you could be swimming laps and fishing for rockfish in Baltimore's Harbor. The leadership behind Baltimore's Healthy Harbor Initiative is committed to success, and the citizens of Baltimore are engaged and supportive.
The Waterfront Partnership is leading the way by immediately instituting a series of initial cleaning and greening practices and projects. These includes the installation of floating islands to act as wetlands; the creation of a sustainable Harbor environment by re-using resources for landscaping and beautification; the launch of an educational campaign around encouraging smokers to dispose of their cigarette butts properly; and a dramatic reduction of fertilizer used when tending to trees and plantings.
Baltimore's Healthy Harbor Strategy is a guidebook that will lead us to the realization of a thrilling vision: A Swimmable Fishable Harbor. The Waterfront Partnership will engage and educate the public to gain collective participation, bringing this bold vision to life. The work we start today will help ensure that in the years to come, we will pack our bathing suits and fishing gear for a trip to Baltimore's Harbor.
