Who We Are:
For the past 25 years the Waterfront Promenade has been a major grass roots economic and community development initiative for Baltimore Harbor. The Waterfront Promenade was established during the reconstruction of the Inner Harbor in the late 1960's and early 1970's. Subsequently, the promenade extended through adjacent neighborhoods through Urban Renewal Legislation. This legislation requires private waterfront property owners to donate a public easement and construct a landscaped promenade along the waters edge. Additional public sites have been redeveloped as open space that include waterfront promenades. To promote the promenade's completion, Baltimore Harbor Endowment, a private non-profit organization, was established in 1984. The efforts of this group were later folded into the Living Classrooms Foundation and are now the charge of the Baltimore Waterfront Promenade Committee, a committee of the Waterfront Partnership of Baltimore
