Welcome to the
Baltimore's Waterfront Promenade

Welcome to the Promenade   |  Our Brick Plazas   |  Promenade Committee News   |

The Waterfront Promenade is much more than a sidewalk along the water, it is part of what makes Baltimore unique.

Covering seven miles of shoreline on one of America's premier urban bodies of water, it connects historic communities, such as Fells Point and Federal Hill, to modern downtown and Harborplace.

The many faces of Baltimore's character are revealed and explained through community markers and scattered fact plaques covering many historical, cultural, architectural, environmental and social histories. People of all ages have the opportunity to recreate, sightsee and relax in the green spaces of Canton and Fort McHenry or shop in downtown Inner Harbor or Little Italy.

The Baltimore Waterfront Promenade is a great benefit to tourists as well as residents.  Once complete, with a comprehensive sign system, it will be an unique asset that continues the maritime traditions of this great seaport city and brings the nature of Baltimore's waterfront alive.  It will provide visitors a way to tour the entire harbor, visiting many historical sites, along one continuous route. The route can be taken by land on the Waterfront Promenade or by sea on water transportation provided. Providing these transportation links by land and by sea serves to help create a world class heritage tourism destination in the heart of Baltimore.

Here's What People are Saying:

In every season people are drawn to the waterfront. Recently, we asked Promenade users about their experience. Here are some of the things they had to say.

"I'm amazed at the progress, how the idea (of the Promenade) really worked. Before they connected things you couldn't walk from the Inner Harbor to Fells Point safely and now I do it all the time." - Towson resident, works at the Inner Harbor.

"I like the bricks. I like looking at the names and messages on the bricks. It gives you something to think about and look at." - Fells Point resident.

"It's peaceful here. In the summer I like to go to Canton [at the Korean War Memorial] and sit by the water." - Mt. Vernon resident, shopping at the Inner Harbor.

"I think it's so cool that you can get your name in bricks. I was reading some of the names (at Raven's Plaza). It's in nice shape too. We have brick roads at home but they're all broken and dirty." - Visitor from Fort Madison, Iowa.

"I've gotten to know the so many of other dogs and dog owners on the Promenade. My dog has made friends with many of them and then the owners and I stop and chat."

"I like to jog here and there so many ways you can extend the jog - sometimes I go around the lighthouse, sometimes I loop around the Power Plant. It's a great place to jog." - Fells Point resident.

"It makes a pleasant walk to work in the morning. I look at the water and notice the sky. I never did that before when I walked down the street." Pikesville resident, works at the Inner Harbor.

"There are lots of food choices. I like the shopping but I really like the all the places to eat." - Bel Air resident.
