Frequently Asked Questions About Al Fresco Dining

What is Al Fresco dining?   Simply put, it is outside or fresh-air dining.  When a restaurant or bar offers an al fresco dining option that means that it has a patio or other designated outdoor area with tables and chairs that is serviced by waitstaff.   Fell’s Point Main Street hosted a one-night alfresco event in 2019 and it was well received.  This program is a continuation of that event.

What are the days and hours for outdoor service?  Restaurants and bars will be allowed to provide outdoor service 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., seven days a week.

Where can I park?  There are 1100 parking spaces within 1100 feet of the Broadway Square.  Check out the parking page.

Will bars and restaurants be required to monitor their outside service area?  Yes, each restaurant/bar is required to delineate their service area with fencing/border.   This area will be serviced by waitstaff for customers who are seated at tables.  No outdoor bars are permitted and there is no service to patrons who are standing.

When will outdoor dining begin?  The city began to approve applications on Friday, June 19, 2020.

How many restaurants/bars are participating?  Currently, 24 restaurants/bars have set up outside dining areas and have been approved by city agencies.

How are deliveries and garbage collection being handled?  All businesses will be asked to schedule deliveries before 4 p.m.  Fell’s Point Main Street and the Waterfront Partnership are working with businesses to resolve delivery and pick up issues.

Will there be tables on the Broadway Square? – No, the Broadway Square will not have tables and chairs for dining and will remain a public area for all to enjoy.

Will tables and chair be secured after closing time so that customers don’t linger after hours? Yes, each restaurant is responsible for securing their tables and chairs.  Many restaurants and bars are bringing their tables and chairs inside.

Will bathroom facilities be provided?  Each restaurant/bar is responsible for providing restroom facilities for their customers.  There are currently no plans for portable restrooms.
