With 2020 quickly approaching, the looming decision on how to spend your New Year’s Eve can easily be overshadowed with the rest of the holiday season’s events. With countless Great Gatsby and decade-themed parties in the works, there are still plenty of alternatives to your typical New Year’s in Baltimore.
This year the Inner Harbor has several unique events to shake up how you celebrate your average New Year’s, offering up the chance to experience NYE a little differently:
Located between the Harborplace Pavilions the Inner Harbor Ice Rink is one of the best ground-level locations to catch Baltimore’s New Year’s Eve fireworks and live music performances. This year the rink will have special hours on December 31 from 9pm through January 1 at 12:30am. Both your family and children friendly, the ice rink offers a unique holiday experience unlike anything else the Inner Harbor has to offer.
Known primarily for their annual Halloween extravaganza, the Maryland Science Science Center also hosts its annual Midnight at Noon event, offering a great opportunity to celebrate the New Year with any younger folks who can’t make it to the technical New Year celebrations.
This year, you can again celebrate the ball drop “before bedtime” at from 10am-2pm at the Science Center. All of the event’s activities are free with paid admission and totally free to members, including rocking in the New Year with music by the popular kids band, Milkshake.
For those who love to participate in New Year’s celebrations without having to wait up all night, this year you can countdown to New Years at Noon (yes, noon!) at the Port Discovery’s family-friendly New Year’s Eve celebration including a magical noontime countdown, a juice and cookie toast, festive tunes, and more festive celebrations.
One of the most kid-friendly event happening in The Harbor this year, Port Discovery’s programming for the day will be themed around a brand new “wishing star”, Port Discovery will be hosting a Wishing Star Circus Show, as well as a performance by Mr. Jupiter, DJ Jampire, and Cory to help Hazel believe again in the power of wishes before the clock strikes noon. The museum will also host plenty of other “Wishing Star-Themed Activities” including a red carpet photo opportunity, as well as a photo op corner. Additional star-themed happenings include a Galaxy Tightrope, Nebula Nursery, Reach for the Stars Acrobat Blocks, and Shooting Star Archery.
This event will be perfect for the younger ones in your lives, with a dress up contest, carriage rides, art activities, a Party Favor Factory, and a few other special performances from Cold Science with Eric Energy and Pam the Kindersinger.
For those looking for a more quintessential New Year’s celebration, Power Plant boasts that it’s NYE Live! Celebration is Baltimore’s “Biggest & Best” New Year’s Eve celebration.
Consisting of live music, electric DJ performances, laser shows, dancing, the event is sure to be a lively experience to end this decade right. There will also be a “massive midnight celebration” where the Times Square Ball Drop will be displayed on two 20’ LED screens, including confetti and balloon drops.
Tickets include exclusive access to up to nine bars and nightclubs, awesome entertainment, party favors, champagne toast, and of course, a massive midnight celebration featuring the “Times Square” Ball Drop on two 20′ LED screens, confetti cannons and balloon drops. New Year’s on a Boat
If you’re looking for a different vantage point to catch the annual firework celebration, you can hop aboard a boat in the Inner Harbor and count down till the city rings in the next decade.
Countdown to 2020 high above the Inner Harbor crowds on the deck of the historic USS Constellation. Enjoy an all-inclusive gourmet menu, provided by Copper Kitchen, offering lite fare and desserts served with local beer, wine and hot cider. There will be party favors, hats, noisemakers, special tours and cannon firings all night!
With two cruise options, you can select from either the Firework’s Dinner Cruise or the Firework’s Bash cruise, that both include various levels of food, open bar, and champagne toasts at midnight. Produced by BOPA, Visit Baltimore, Cruise Maryland, USS Constellation, The Center Club, and WJZ Baltimore, downtown events will start from 9pm-12:30am.
The countdown will start with a performance by Rufus Roundtree & Da B’more Brass Factory, before the annual infamous fireworks show begins.
