(July 8, 2020) – Waterfront Partnership and the Baltimore Kawasaki Sister City Committee have completed the relocation of the Kawasaki Stone Lantern from Rash Field to the north shore of the Inner Harbor. The lantern now sits in a park between the World Trade Center and the National Aquarium. Designed with a mix of local plants and authentic Japanese landscaping, the lantern garden is a stop on our newly completed Native Plant Gardens walking tour.
The stone lantern was presented to the City of Baltimore by the Mayor Saburo Ito of Kawasaki, Japan on June 14, 1984. The design of the new lantern garden was completed by Mahan Rykiel Associates, with construction by Rooted in Nature and Hilgartner Natural Stone Company.
