Rash Report: Fence Completed, Salvage Continues

(July 30, 2020) – Our construction crews continue to labor through the hot Baltimore summer as we prepare Rash Field for demolition. Whiting-Turner has finished construction of the safety fence, which stretches from the Maryland Science Center to the beach volleyball courts and from Key Highway to the Waterfront Promenade. The Promenade remains open during construction. To access it, please walk down the bleachers at the beach volleyball courts or walk alongside the Maryland Science Center.

Second Chance, a South Baltimore nonprofit dedicated to sustainability and workforce development, continues to salvage building materials from the park, diverting them from the landfill. This morning, a Second Chance crew collected park benches, bathroom partitions, iron gates and more, and will return to collect cobblestones, landscaping and signage. These items will be available for sale at the Second Chance warehouse on Russell Street. Proceeds are reinvested into the nonprofit’s workforce training program, providing job training for Baltimore residents returning from prison.
