Morgan Stanley digs into spring!
The Lancaster Line-up!
Volunteers from @Morgan Stanley recently gathered along the waterfront at the Lancaster Canal Butterfly Waystation to spruce things up for Earth Day!
This two-block-long garden runs parallel to the harbor’s promenade in Harbor East, providing essential habitat for urban-dwelling wildlife, especially butterflies, as a Certified Butterfly Waystation

Three years of dedication to The Lancaster Butterfly Waystation!
This is Morgan Stanley’s 3rd year of tending to Lancaster’s collection of perennial natives and habitat features. Not only did attendees weed and renew the garden with 400 new seedlings, but they also learned techniques and tips that easily transfer to home gardens and yards. These wildlife gardening partnerships foster excellent relationships in Baltimore’s business sector and provide much-needed natural habitat, help to filter rainfall, and create a healthy and beautiful waterfront environment.
A few plants on the all-star list in this garden include:
Nassella tenuissima - Ponytail grass – sways in the wind and looks like it sounds
Phlox stolonifera – Phlox – creeps like a pink or purple carpet in spring, loves borders
Mountain mint – Pycnanthemum muticum - powerhouse pollinator magnet for bees and moths
Golden Alexander - Zizia aurea, hosts many insects, ladybugs, and the Black Swallowtail butterfly
Common milkweed - Asclepias syriaca, the only host plant for the Monarch Butterfly caterpillars
