Constellation, Bringing Their Spark to Rash Field Park!
Not Just Your Average Walk in the Park!
Constellation Energy’s tagline, “Powering Communities” is more than just a great play on words- it is a mission they stand behind. With a variety of programs focused on education, workforce development, environmental stewardship, and financial assistance, they’ve shown true dedication to making a positive impact in the neighborhoods they serve.
Constellation also encourages employee volunteerism and engagement, and we are lucky to have partnered with them for a decade on local projects on the waterfront. We were joined earlier this month by a group of enthusiastic volunteers for a full day of wildlife gardening prep work!
Volunteers making things sparkle for the next round of spat!
There’s More Than One Way to Garden…
This year Constellation did double duty, refurbing the gardens at Rash Field Park AND prepping cages for oyster gardening. The cages used to hold the spat-seeded oyster shells can really take a beating and baby oysters need a safe and solid place to grow. Constellation volunteers took turns building new cages, moving logs, planting, weeding, and watering before the heat of summer sets in!
A few plants on the all-star list at Rash Field Park include:
Nassella tenuissima - Ponytail grass – sways in the wind and looks like it sounds
Phlox stolonifera – Phlox – creeps like a pink or purple carpet in spring, loves borders
Mountain mint – Pycnanthemum muticum - powerhouse pollinator magnet for bees and moths
Golden Alexander - Zizia aurea, hosts many insects, ladybugs, and the Black Swallowtail butterfly
Common milkweed - Asclepias syriaca, the only host plant for the Monarch Butterfly caterpillars
Baltimore may have a great skyline, but the view from Rash Field Parks’ pavilion overlook was even better! Our Constellation All-Stars dug in to help restore urban habitat and boost the harbor’s living filtering system!
A BIG thanks to Constellation!
