The Walters Art Museum will be hosting a special Juneteenth performance, celebrating Afro House music. Scott Patterson of Afro House’s Astronaut Symphony has curated a immersive performance that explores human connection to planet, solar system, and beyond.

Juneteenth commemorates the date that enslaved people in Texas were finally freed on June 19, 1863, and marks our country’s second Independence Day. This year marks 4 years since June 2021 when The Juneteenth National Independence Day Act was passed by the US House of Representatives and Senate, and signed by President Joe Biden, recognizing Juneteenth as a National Holiday. The History of the Underground Railroad in the Inner Harbor
Did you know that the Inner Harbor is home to a piece of the Underground Railroad?
Pier 4, formerly known as Dugan’s Wharf, marks the site where Tubman helped Tilly, an enslaved woman, escape by steamboat in 1856.
In August of 2023, The Maryland Department of Commerce Office of Tourism and Film commemorated this act of bravery with historical signage to educate the public on Baltimore’s role in the Abolition movement in the 1800s.
