Juneteenth commemorates the date that enslaved people in Texas were finally freed on June 19, 1863. It is a historical date that offers opportunities for educational awareness, celebration, and community. This year marks 5 years since President Joe Biden, the US House of Representatives, and the Senate passed the Juneteenth National Independence Day Act, which recognizes this day as a National Holiday. There are an abundance of ways to commemorate this joyous day of freedom, especially here in Baltimore.
