Mike Phillips at Keystone Korner
Soulful contemporary jazz saxophonist Mike Phillips is known as one of the most electrifying instrumentalists today. Mike is the first musician signed by Michael Jordan to the Nike Jordan Brand, home of the Air Jordan, and is the only musician in the world to have recorded and toured with the legendary “Big Three” of American soul and pop music: Michael Jackson, Prince and Stevie Wonder, not only as a member of the band, but as a featured soloist. Mike Phillips has played three halftime NFL shows with various artists and served as Music Director for the Super Bowl Gospel Celebration for two consecutive years. Phillips also served as Musical Director and Host of the popular BET program “Lyric Café”.

Channeling influences from iconic acts such as D'Angelo, Chaka Khan, The Isley Brothers, Earth Wind and Fire, Prince, and Mint Condition, Groove Stu brings back the art of real vocals and live instrumentation. Groove Stu has shared stages with legendary acts such as Frankie Beverly and Maze, Boyz II Men, Erykah Badu, Mint Condition, Eric Roberson, Raheem DeVaughn, and Kindred the Family Soul, solidifying their reputation as a dynamic live act. The David Bach Consort
David Bach is one of the hardest working jazz keyboardists/pianists in the region with a long list of awards, accolades and credits from nearly 30 years as a professional musician and bandleader. Over the years, David has recorded and toured the world as a solo artist and a sideman for several major artists including Enrique Iglesias, Thievery Corporation, Fishbelly Black, and has recorded with Everything But the Girl and the Basement Boys. He is a recipient of the 2019 Maryland Entertainment Hall of Fame and the winner of Maryland Music Awards “Best Jazz Artist” in 2016. His most recent album, Fierce Heart, reached #33 on the 2020 RMR Top Jazz Albums of the Year and remained on the charts for 20 weeks. His band, The David Bach Consort was the winner of the Jazz Discovery Showcase on BET/Viacom which led to millions of people being exposed to David’s exciting music.

She is a virtuoso, she is expressive, spontaneous and with a grace that makes her the favorite of all of us.” — Chucho Valdés Yilian Cañizares is one of the most intriguing contemporary violinists, singers and composers. Always staying true to her origins, she skillfully blends jazz, classical and Afro-Cuban rhythms with her otherworldly voice. Whether on stage or in a recording studio, there are few talented artists like Yilian – who was born in Havana and settled in Switzerland – with such great respect for the past and sensitivity towards the future. In recent years, she has shared a stage with Chucho Valdés, Richard Bona, Ibrahim Maalouf, Omar Sosa, Youn Sun Nah, Michael League, Harold Lopez Nussa, Roberto Fonseca and Dhafer Youssef.

THE HEIDI CHRONICLES Continues Vagabond Players’ 110th Season

This spring, Vagabond Players brings Wendy Wasserstein’s THE HEIDI CHRONICLES to the stage, directed by Lee Conderacci in her Vagabond Players debut. In this sparkling and oh so relevant comedy, art historian Heidi Holland and her friends travel from the 1960s through the 1980s making life-changing choices relating to dating, mating and career paths. Will the brilliant and perceptive Heidi find the partner of her dreams? Do “women’s libbers” consider Heidi’s decision about having a child to be a betrayal? Can Heidi attain the fulfillment that she—and millions of other women—fought for? Winner of both the Pulitzer Prize for Drama and the Tony Award for Best Play, The Heidi Chronicles remains a sharp, insightful and deeply relatable look at friendship, feminism and the search for meaning and continues to serve as a reminder of what’s been accomplished and how much remains to be achieved.
Children’s Book Festival 2026
This spring join the Reginald F. Lewis Museum for the return of our family friendly Children’s Book Festival. Children and families can enjoy a fun-filled day exploring kids’ literature about African Americans while meeting some of your favorite children’s authors and illustrators in our Book Village. Enjoy a host of activities to include author readings, illustration workshops, craft activities, dance parties and more. Museum visitors can receive a free copy of A Ride to Remember by Amy Nathan and Sharon Langley while supplies last.
The African American Children’s Book Festival strives to connect families to high quality books about and for African American children. We aim to foster a love of reading for families by connecting them with renown and up and coming creators of children’s books.

Sailing Baltimore Harbor
Always wanted to try sailing? This is your chance. Join the Downtown Sailing Center for a 3-hour Taste of Sailing experience on Baltimore’s beautiful waterfront. Designed for complete beginners, this hands-on course teaches the basics of steering (helming), trimming sails, and understanding essential sailing terms — all while you’re out on the water. With a maximum of four students per boat, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to take the tiller, handle the sails, and feel what it’s like to harness the wind. Prefer to relax for a few minutes and take in the skyline? That’s welcome too. There’s nothing quite like sailing to build confidence, problem-solving skills, and a sense of independence — and it’s simply a joyful way to spend an afternoon or evening. No experience required. Saxophonist, educator, and director Paul Carr has been an extraordinary jazz ambassador for decades. Known for his hard-charging and soulful post-bop style, he has dedicated his professional career to performing and promoting Jazz through education and community outreach. The Eric Byrd Trio (EBT), pianist/vocalist Eric Byrd, bassist Will Hazel, and drummer Alphonso Young, Jr., have traveled the world as enthusiastic ambassadors of jazz for over 20 years. Rooted in swing and bebop, The Trio also embraces gospel and the blues as core elements of their expansive performance style.
UMBC Jazz Ensemble Presents: Excursions!
The UMBC Jazz Ensemble, under the direction of Matt Belzer is a large jazz group dedicated to the professional training and creative development of its members. Throughout the year, the group performs at concerts, special events and festivals. They have performed with numerous guest artists including Nicole Mitchell, Allison Miller, Jonathan Barber, Howard Johnson, Ben Allison, Steven Bernstein, and Larry Willis. This concert will feature new works composed and arranged by students. The Chuck Redd Quartet with Mike LeDonne
Chuck Redd, vibes Mike LeDonne, piano Blake Meister, bass Quincy Phillips, drums Chuck Redd is well known internationally as a performer on drums and vibraphone. Chuck began recording and touring the globe when he joined the Charlie Byrd Trio at the age of 21. For two consecutive years, Chuck was awarded “Best Vibist” in New York City’s Hot House Jazz Magazine 2015 and 2016 Fans Decision award. To his credit are 25 European tours, six tours of Japan, and being featured on over 80 recordings. Chuck is the 2019 musical director of The Oregon Festival of American Music.

Find out what tools and techniques scientists use to unravel the mysteries of our prehistoric planet through hands-on activity stations. Watch out—there may even be a volcanic eruption!
Rain Barrel Workshop
Build your own rain barrel and get ready for the next big rain! Learn how rain barrels help capture roof runoff, reduce stormwater impact, and provide a convenient water source for your garden and yard in this workshop designed for ages 12+. Tickets are per barrel, and up to four people can work together on one barrel, making it a fun family project!
The NIC Dahl Art & Poetry Workshop with Carole B Weatherford and Jeffery B Weatherford
Carole and Jeffery Boston Weatherford will read from their books "The Roots of Rap" and "RAP IT UP!" and lead participants through the process of creating their very own raps. After the rap is completed, participants will create their very own album cover utilizing the scratchboard medium that Jeffery is known for in the children's book realm.
Recommended for kids ages 6 and up and their families.
Urban Astronomy
Take a tour of the stars above Baltimore! City lights might make stargazing seem impossible, but with the right tools and our expert guidance, you may be surprised to find out what is visible in the nighttime sky above our urban center. Using the Maryland Science Center’s rooftop observatory and a few smaller telescopes, you will have the chance to view planets, bright stars, and other celestial highlights that shine through urban light pollution.
Red Shoe Shuffle 2026 5k Run and Walk
On Sunday, April 19, 2026, tons of folks will be running, walking, and shuffling for the families at Ronald McDonald House Maryland (RMH) at their annual charity 5k.
Over the past 15 years, we have been able to raise over $5.3 million for the RMH kids experiencing serious medical crises. Unbelievable! Thanks to the amazing Shuffle community, the team can continue to serve their mission to 55 families each night and 2,400 families a year by providing a home-away-from-home for families during their most vulnerable times of need.

Born from jam sessions in a lead guitarist’s basement, the band’s name is a tribute to those collaborative beginnings, with "Sade" honoring the host and "Collective" representing their shared musical vision. Their sound is a unique fusion that feels both spontaneous and nostalgic, creating a vibrant tapestry of intricate grooves and rich melodies. Think Tony Allen meets the Vanguard — a sound that respects tradition while pushing it into new, exciting territory. Sades Collective is currently in the studio, crafting their debut music to share their fresh take on jazz with a wider audience.
Sailing Baltimore Harbor
Have you ever thought, "I've always wanted to try sailing…"? If the answer is YES, then the Downtown Sailing Center’s 3-hour Taste of Sailing course is for you! This experience-based course will teach you the basics of helming a sailboat, trimming sails, and will introduce you to some cool nautical lingo. You’ll learn while sailing around Baltimore’s beautiful waterfront and have the opportunity to experience the city in a whole new way! Each boat will have a maximum of 4 students, so there will be plenty of opportunities to try your hand at the tiller, handle the sails, or just sit back and take in the sights.

Telescope Training
Grab your telescope and head to the Maryland Science Center for a hands-on training session. This 30-minute workshop is perfect for individuals who are eager to learn how to set up, align, and confidently start using their own telescope. Instructors will walk you through the basics of telescope operation, provide tips for getting the best views, and introduce you to simple sky navigation techniques to help you find planets, stars, and constellations.

Fran Vielma’s Pan American Jazz Orchestra premiered in 2021 to showcase contemporary jazz through the musics of Pan-America—a historic blend that began in the 19th century in New Orleans, shaped profoundly by the Afro-Caribbean diaspora and greatly influenced by the Haitian Revolution.

The 2013 Best Documentary Oscar winning film “Twenty Feet from Stardom” altered the course of Lisa’s musical journey, telling her story, with clips of her legendary duets with Sting or with Mick Jagger on “Gimme Shelter”, left audiences eager to see and hear more, so Lisa took the chance to set out on her own reinventing classic songs with her co-conspirators JC Maillard and Grand Baton. Their organic fusion of Caribbean psychedelic soul and jazzy progressive rock ignited Lisa’s flexibility and freedom of expression, awakening her lifelong desire to make music that heals but still rocks the house.

Immersion Cities Unity Walk 5K + Cultural Festival is a family-friendly community event at the Baltimore Inner Harbor on Sunday, May 3, centered on promoting unity and celebrating the diverse cultures that make up Baltimore City. The day begins with a 5K walk/run and is followed by a vibrant cultural festival featuring live performances, local vendors, and community resource organizations representing cultures from around the world. Proceeds support programming that provides underserved youth with access to world languages, cultural experiences, and global learning opportunities.

Barry Eugene Carter, better known by his stage name Barry White, was an American singer and songwriter. A two-time Grammy Award winner known for his bass voice and romantic image, his greatest success came in the 1970s as a solo singer and with the Love Unlimited Orchestra, crafting many enduring soul, funk, and disco songs such as his two biggest hits: "Can't Get Enough of Your Love, Babe" and "You're the First, the Last, My Everything". Gerald Levert was an American singer-songwriter and producer. Levert was best known for singing with his brother, Sean Levert, and friend Marc Gordon of the R&B vocal group, LeVert. Levert was also a of the R&B group Black Men United and a member of LSG, a supergroup comprising Keith Sweat, Johnny Gill, and himself. Baltimore Floatilla 2026
The Baltimore Floatilla is an annual event organized by Waterfront Partnership to raise awareness about paddling in Baltimore Harbor. The event takes place every June and involves kayakers, rowers, and stand-up paddlers paddling to the Inner Harbor. The purpose of the event is to advocate for better recreational water access and to highlight environmental issues on the waterfront.

Invisible Warriors: African American Women in World War II
Join the Reginald F. Lewis Museum in a film screening and discussion of Invisible Warriors: African American Women in World War II. Invisible Warriors gives voice to the hidden heroines who helped reshape both a nation at war and the course of American heritage. Told by the women who courageously fought both racism and sexism on America’s home front, this is the untold story of 600,000 Black “Rosie the Riveters.” These trailblazing women entered factories, government offices, and shipyards, shattering barriers and laying the groundwork for future generations of African American women.
This film screening will include a post discussion with filmmaker Gregory Cooke (virtually) and local Rosie Riveter Susie King (in person).

The show is uniquely developed to compliment the soundtrack, and is only available at the Maryland Science Center.
"Echoes of Soul" A Tribute to The S.O.S. Band & Atlantic Starr featuring Julie Ennis
Atlantic Starr was one of the most successful soul bands of the 80s and early 90s, with a basketful of memorable songs including "Always", "Secret Lovers", "Circles", "Silver Shadow", and "Masterpiece". The S.O.S. Band is an R&B and electro-funk group who also gained fame in the 80s. They are best known for their songs "Take Your Time," "Tell Me If You Still Care," and “The Finest.” Julie Hawkins Ennis is a powerhouse vocalist whose musical roots run deep in the soul of Southern Maryland. After college, Julie began recording under Paul Minor’s guidance as well as that of legendary R&B artist Al Johnson of The Unifics. Under Minor’s development, she was positioned to become a featured female solo act under Verdine White of Earth, Wind & Fire with EMI. From Southern Maryland roots to East Coast stages, Julie “Juliet” Hawkins Ennis remains a dynamic voice shaped by passion, heritage, and a lifelong devotion to music.

Test Press is back at The Sound Garden on March 20th, and we are turning the record stacks into a full-blown dance floor once again. Built around the raw energy of vinyl culture and underground sound, Test Press blurs the line between listening session and late-night rave.
This time, we are bringing in PEDROZ, one of the most exciting young names coming out of Brazil’s underground. At just 21, PEDROZ has carved out a sound rooted in tech house, minimal, and house, pairing tight grooves with raw, dance floor-driven energy. 64th Annual Saint Patrick's Day Parade
Baltimore’s St. Patrick Parade is truly the jewel in Maryland’s emerald crown. For over 65 years, thousands of spectators from the region have crowded the streets and sidewalks of downtown Baltimore and the famous Inner Harbor to watch thousands more march and celebrate Irish culture, music, song, and dance.
The parade begins for the Washington Monument at 2pm. Check out the parade route here.

Women’s History Program: “The Artistry and Activism of Frances Harper”
Join the Reginald F. Lewis Museum celebrating the life and legacy of activist Frances Ellen Watkins Harper through dance and poetry during Women’s History Month. “The Artistry and Activism of Frances Harper,” depicts Harper’s rise from being orphaned in Baltimore to becoming the most prolific Black novelist and most beloved Black poet of the nineteenth century after becoming the first Black woman to join the American Anti-Slavery speaking circuit. The 5 suite production includes original music, choreography and poetry performed by Sharing Our Legacy Dance Theatre (SOL) and directed by Professor Emerita, Lynnette Young Overby from the University of Delaware. Frances Watkins Harper Bicentennial birthday was recently commemorated in 2025.
